Each layer on my selfie is another important aspect of my life. They represent who I am and how I would like to represent myself. My first layer is the black cat, Diamond. She is friendly and kind; these are aspects I'd like to think I can find inside myself. The second layer is the tabby cat, Jenna. She is proud and confident which are other traits I would like to possess. The third layer is a flower, which to me represents innocence and youth. Because I am still a young adult I still hold a childlike innocence in the way I view the world. The fourth layer is a dog which represents my excitability and playfulness. The last layer is the most meaningful to me because it is a lake which reminds me of my grandmother who was a very important role model in my life. Each layer makes up a part of my personality. The title of my piece is the same title as a song from my favorite play Les Miserables. It's taken me awhile to figure out who I am, how that is defined, and who I want to be.
Artist Statement Double Exposure:
The old photo had a lot more light on the center of my face. The picture wasn't as focused as it could be. The angle of the original photo was front facing. The editing of the original image was mediocre for my first time. The edges around the layered pictures were very obvious. The picture wasn't the best I've taken.
The new photo was much more focused and there was an even amount of light throughout the photo. The layer of the image looked much more natural because there weren't as many harsh edges. The overall picture quality of the new photo is much more developed and professional. In this photo I was much more focused on the quality of the picture than the editing. I think I've grown a lot over the trimester with my picture taking.
